Research: Introduction

The College of Nursing at The University of New Mexico is recognized as one of the leading national public research colleges and the leading comprehensive teaching and research institution in the state of New Mexico. The College of Nursing has assembled diverse and talented research faculty who are an integral part of one of the most comprehensive university health sciences complexes in the nation. Our mission is to promote health through the discovery and communication of knowledge and to enhance the art and science of nursing through excellence in education, research, scholarship, and service.

Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the College of Nursing have the opportunity to engage in research experience guided by world-class faculty members. Our faculty are dedicated professionals who provide a learning environment that helps students reach their potential, develop appropriate professional values and behaviors, and commit themselves to life-long learning.

Research at the University of New Mexico College of Nursing is conducted by individual researchers as well as teams of researchers within nursing and on an interdisciplinary basis as part of the UNM Health Sciences Clinical and Translational Sciences Center. Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the College of Nursing have the opportunity to engage in research experience guided by experienced College of Nursing faculty. From developing new understandings of health among vulnerable populations to chronic illness and health policy, our research faculty efforts are dynamic and growing.
