The Early Head Start program is a City of Albuquerque program that provides early childhood education services to underserved families. Through a contract with the city, College of Nursing faculty and students provide primary care services focused on the health and development of children and early intervention for childhood health concerns. Services include developmental assessment, health screenings, hearing tests, immunizations, as well as referrals for families.
Launched in 2010, the Family Health Partnerships initiative provides community and culturally based pregnancy and infancy care in an innovative group format. A team of Certified Nurse Midwives, Nurse Practitioners, and Community Health workers deliver services to families throughout Sandoval County, New Mexico. The project is supported by a federal grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) through 2015.
GEHM clinics serve Albuquerque’s senior population. Located in five senior centers around the city, the clinics provide a wide variety of health care services to help seniors maintain healthy aging and preserve their independence. Services include hypertension and diabetes screening, individualized health assessments, nutrition counseling, medication and illness management, psycho-social support and referrals to community services.
