Midwifery Program Re-Accredited

June 1, 2017

The Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME) awarded the UNM College of Nursing’s Nurse-Midwifery program 10-year re-accreditation. The mission of the Nurse-Midwifery concentration is to educate graduates to serve the needs of rural and underserved populations. To accomplish this, students are placed outside of the Albuquerque metropolitan area for two thirds of their clinical rotations, with more than 1,000 hours of clinical experience on graduation.

According to Dean Nancy Ridenour, PhD, RN, APRN-BC, FAAN, “UNM midwives are dedicated to improving the health of New Mexicans. New Mexico has the highest rate of midwifery-attended births in the nation. The high quality and expertise of our graduates is known nationwide.” The Nurse-Midwifery program was ranked 7th in the nation in the 2018 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Graduate Schools for 2018."
